I got this for my bed room TV, so I can watch all of my blu-ray movies upstairs in addition to on my home theater setup. I didn’t need anything with bells and whistles, only something to do simple playback. And that’s precisely what this player does.

It does have some drawbacks. One nitpick is that when you have got the display set to show the time left in a disc, as opposed to the time elapsed, the front display does not show| a minus in front to let you know that, (though it does show the amount of time left). Higher priced machines usually do that. It is minor, I know, however it’s one thing I want it had. Also, the remote unit for the Sylvania NB530slx is not especially well designed. It works, it’s only too big and clunky. The player itself is not all that aesthetically pleasing, either.

The Sylvania NB530slx player is perfect for somebody who just wants to put in a disc and press play.

If this is for a higher-end setup, I might spend a bit more. I have a Sony BDP-S350 for my home theater and like it more than this, however it costs quite a bit more.

I give the Sylvania NB530slx 5 stars because, if you happen to be on the lookout for the cheapest solution to playing blu-ray, this truly is five star product. It’s not 5 stars once you take the low price out of the equation.
